MeatballRacing.com began as a racing team name in 2006. It originates from the Meatball Flag, which in auto racing is waved to signal to the driver:
Return to the pits to service a mechanical problem
I figure a team carrying this name cannot take itself seriously, nor can its competitors. There’s no unmet expectations, just fun. I have on occasion lived up to the namesake…
As a youngster I took 3rd place in an R/C race at Apache Plaza sponsored by Jolly’s Toys and Hobby driving my Kyosho Raider. At one point in the race my motor mount became loose and the only way the car would move was by driving in reverse – otherwise the gears would not mesh. The spectators that day got a hoot out of my reverse driving skills.
At my first official R/C race as an adult, I crashed so hard that my battery and speed controller became dislodged from the car. A yard sale if I had ever seen one.
